How much does a Madrid trip cost?
Madrid is around 20–25% cheaper than Paris or London. Budget travelers sharing a hostel dorm and eating menú del día (12–16 € for a 3-course lunch with wine) can get by on around 55–80 € per person per day. Mid-range travelers — 3-star hotel, sit-down restaurants, a couple of paid attractions — should budget 120–180 € per person per day.
Key costs to plan for: the Prado is 15 € per adult (free 6–8pm Mon–Sat and 5–7pm Sundays); a Bernabéu stadium tour is around 35 €; tapas for two in La Latina runs 15–25 € per person; a single metro journey is 1.50–2 €. El Retiro, the Temple of Debod and many free-hour museum windows cost nothing.
Day trips add cost: the AVE to Toledo (33 min) or Segovia (27 min) is around 14–30 € return; an organised full-day tour runs 50–90 €; renting a car for the sierra (Manzanares el Real, Rascafría) is around 35–55 €/day.
